Résumé

Welcome to my portfolio and résumé. My name is Matt Reiners, I’m a 38-year old graphic and web designer based in Pretoria.

The Arts
I’ve had a keen artistic eye since childhood, and my matric Arts final project was also chosen to be included in the Durban City Hall exhibit in 2004. I’ve since partially studied Information Design at the University of Pretoria, and also studied B.Ed FET (History, English First Language and Art History) at UNISA.

Music
The arts and music run in my family. My father was intrinsically involved with the KwaZulu Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Playhouse in Durban in the 1990’s, while also being a preacher, operatic singer and organist.

I’m a multi-instrumentalist, with 26 years of experience on the guitar, and proficient on the drums, bass, piano and also passed Grade 7 in UNISA singing. I’ve also dabbled with the saxophone, violin, cello, accordion and even the elusive triangle.

My wife and I have been members of numerous bands, most notable in Friday Beyond (now known as Fribe). I’ve also worked as a session guitarist for numerous bands, including Wheels (comprised of Clive Bruce’s former band). Furthermore, as a private music teacher I’ve passed on my knowledge to many students.

Personal Interests
In my free time I enjoy learning about new technology and computer-related subjects. I’m particularly interested in game development and how narrative structure is implemented in successful titles.

Welcome to my selected portfolio.

My first ever advertisement was published when I was sixteen years old in the print-media Durban Playhouse Theatre newsletter. Since then graphic design had been a staple and passion in my life. In twenty years’ time since, I’ve had numerous ads, articles and media published.

I’ve worked as an in-house designer / one-man marketing department for a catering equipment company, churches and even a prominent 4×4 fitment centre, to name a few. I’ve been solely responsible for annual marketing budgets ranging in the millions. I’ve also worked as a sub-editor for a local Christian newspaper where I had to proof articles, as well as design, in both Afrikaans and English. I’ve had a range of experience in many facets of marketing, design, copy-editing and social media.

In my personal capacity I’ve freelanced as a graphic designer, type-setter, web-developer and even venturing into videography and voice-over recording.
I’m versatile in many areas of communication design, backed by decades of experience.
